Whether you’re in an open-plan office or a clinical setting, switchable privacy glass gives you direct control over visibility. One switch takes the glass from fully transparent to opaque, and when privacy isn’t needed, the space opens straight back up.
Key features….

Instant Privacy on Demand
Switchable privacy glass offers immediate privacy, allowing spaces to be opened up or closed off in seconds, giving occupants full control over visibility without the maintenance or aesthetic downsides of traditional window coverings.

Clean, Uncluttered Finish
Removing additional window coverings from the equation keeps the interior clean and consistent. Smart glass partition systems sit flawlessly within the glazed line with no brackets, tracks or hardware to manage.

One Space, Multiple Functions
A meeting room, treatment space or home office – switchable glass allows a single area to serve different purposes throughout the day. The layout stays the same, but the level of privacy is easily adjustable.

Technology and operation
Our switchable privacy glass uses a specialist PDLC interlayer embedded within the glass panel. When an electrical current is applied, the particles within the interlayer align and the glass becomes clear. When the power is off, the particles scatter and the glass turns opaque.
The system can be controlled via wall switches, remote controls or integrated building management and smart home systems.
It’s compatible with both single glazed and double glazed configurations, depending on the acoustic or thermal performance required. Every installation is a complete, tested assembly with the interlayer, glass and framing specified together.
Applications and use cases
Seals, frame construction and glass-to-frame tolerances all affect how a fire-resistant glass system performs under fire conditions.
The same applies to our acoustic systems. The Rw value of the glass is one part of the result. Perimeter seals, door threshold details and how the system ties into the surrounding structure all influence what you actually hear on the other side. We address all of this at the early design stage to ensure a smooth installation and long-term performance.
If you are working to a specific fire strategy, acoustic target or building regulation, share the documentation with us early and our experts will construct around it.

Integration and design
Smart glass partition systems can be integrated with acoustic glass partitions or fire-rated systems where the project requires combined performance.
And framed and minimal-framed options are available, with the switchable glass sitting within the same glazed aesthetic as the rest of the fit-out.
The specification also needs to account for the power supply, control method and any integration with existing building systems. We work through this at the design stage to make sure the installation is clean, compliant and easy to operate from day one.
It’s worth checking whether your building requires fire-resistant glass before starting any design work.
Frequently Ask Questions
What is switchable privacy glass?
It is a smart glass system that changes from clear to opaque using an electrical current through a PDLC interlayer.
How does switchable glass work?
An electrical current causes particles within the interlayer to align, allowing light to pass through. When the current is removed, the particles scatter, making the glass appear opaque.
Is switchable glass safe?
Yes. It is manufactured using safety glass and installed to meet relevant UK standards.
Does it require constant power to stay clear?
Yes. Power is required to maintain the transparent state. In the event of a power cut the glass defaults to opaque, which in many applications is the preferred fail state.
Can it be used in offices?
It is designed for meeting rooms, boardrooms and executive offices are the most common commercial applications.
Can doors be included?
Fire-rated glass doors can be integrated as part of the same tested assembly, including compliant ironmongery. We also provide smart and acoustic glass for busy environments that need extra privacy
Is it suitable for residential use?
Yes. Bathrooms, home offices and open-plan spaces are all common residential applications.
Can switchable privacy glass be combined with acoustic partitions?
Smart glass partition systems can be integrated with acoustic glazing where both privacy and sound control are required.
CHow much does switchable privacy glass cost?
Costs depend on the size, configuration and control system specified. Use our pricing tool or contact us for a project-specific figure.
